Brandon University (BU) is the third largest university in Manitoba with an annual enrolment of approximately 3,000 students. It boasts five faculties and three research centres that offer undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and pre-professional programs that prepare students for the future.

Yale University professor to visit BU for public talk about women in science

A pioneer in the emerging and important field of ribosome assembly, from Yale University’s School of Medicine, will visit Brandon University (BU) to talk about women in science on Wednesday, June 26. The free talk by Dr. Susan J. Baserga, titled “Resilience and Ribosomes: Practising Persistence in Life and the Lab,” will take place in the Louis Riel Room at BU, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Susan J. Baserga will share here experiences in science on Wednesday, June 26.
Dr. Baserga is a world leader in the study of human genetic disorders that cause ribosome assembly defects.

Brandon University Convocation concludes with Faculties of Arts, Science, Health Studies, and School of Music

BRANDON – Tassels were moved from one side of their caps to the next, as Brandon University’s newest alumni marked the symbolic moment when they moved from student to graduate.
Convocation concluded today at BU with two ceremonies, as hundreds of graduates received their degrees from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Health Studies and the School of Music.

BU research bolstered by $800K federal investment

BRANDON – More than $800,000 in new federal research funding is flowing into Brandon University (BU) through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grants program.
The news was part of a national announcement made on Tuesday by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Canada’s Minister of Science and Sport.

BU professor named chair of international expert group on peatland restoration

A Brandon University faculty member will soon head to Estonia for his first meetings in his new role as chair of the Expert Group: Peatland Restoration, part of the International Peatland Society.
Dr. Pete Whittington, an Associate Professor of Geography and peatlands researcher at BU, was named to the position earlier this month.

Public talk by writer highlights upcoming Indigenous events at BU

Writer, educator and activist Dr. Niigaan Sinclair will visit Brandon University (BU) for a free public talk on Monday, Feb. 4.
Dr. Sinclair’s presentation, Forgetting to Dream: Reconciliation in Reverse, will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, in the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building.

Brandon University geography faculty bring home awards

BRANDON – Two Brandon University faculty members in the Department of Geography have been recognized with awards from the Canadian Association of Geographers.
Professor Emeritus Roderick McGinn and Dr. Rachel Herron were presented with the awards from the Prairie Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers (PCAG) at its 42nd annual meeting, held Sept.

Cellular and microRNA research at BU boosted by NSERC grants to professor and student

BRANDON – Funding announced today by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will help a Brandon University (BU) researcher’s work to create a better understanding of cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Dr. Vincent Chen, an Assistant Professor in BU’s Department of Chemistry, is a recipient of an NSERC Discovery Grant, with a value of $165,000 over five years.
