BRANDON, MB – Together with their families, student recipients of the 2013 and 2014 Enbridge Dakota Language Scholarship celebrated their achievements with members of Brandon University’s senior administration and representatives from Enbridge Pipelines Inc. at a luncheon held on campus in November, 2014.
In attendance was the Enbridge Dakota Language Scholarship recipient for 2013, Jillian Chalmers, currently in her second year at BU, as well as the two recipients for 2014; Shannen Wombdiska and Matthew Pratt, both in their first year at Brandon University.

BRANDON, MB – A senior administrator at Brandon University with strong connections to the military and police is honouring the solider killed on Parliament Hill in October, with a commemorative seat in the University’s gymnasium.
“Corporal Nathan Cirillo helps us to put a name and face to the thousands who don uniforms in Canada and the US to keep us safe,” says Dr. Andrew Egan, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

BRANDON, MB – Clarinet players at Brandon University’s School of Music demonstrated in 2014 that they are among the best in North America, with exceptional showings in important festivals in Canada and the US.

Four of the seven clarinets selected for the 2014 National Youth Band of Canada were Brandon University (BU) students, says Dr. Catherine Wood, Associate Professor at the School of Music.
“To have more than half of the clarinets in a national ensemble, including the section leader, coming from BU is remarkable,” says Dr. Wood, an award-winning clarinetist who has performed and taught throughout Canada, the United States and France.

A lifelong Manitoban, career educator and tireless volunteer has been awarded Brandon University’s 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service.
Bruce Macdonald grew up in Flin Flon, earned Bachelor Degrees in Science and Education from Brandon University (BU).

BRANDON, MB – The Dean of Brandon University’s internationally-renowned music programming has accepted a new challenge – alumni engagement, fundraising, and partnership building. Dr. Michael Kim, Dean of the School of Music, has been named Acting Associate Vice-President (External), and will oversee the University’s community campaigns including the current Score a Seat initiative to raise the final dollars for the Healthy Living Centre.

BRANDON, MB – More performances and more venues mean more opportunity to enjoy outstanding music at this year’s Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, an annual celebration held on the August long weekend featuring internationally-accomplished musicians from Brandon University (BU).
“We will be presenting the widest range of programming ever, since the Festival began in 2006,” says pianist Alexander Tselyakov, BU School of Music professor and Festival artistic director.

BRANDON, MB – A celebrated music student from Brandon University (BU) has been invited to perform and deliver a lecture at an international piano competition in Serbia later this month.
Luis Ramirez auditioned in April before an international panel of the World Piano Teachers Association (WPTA), and was selected to take part in the International Piano Competition in Novi Sad, Serbia.

BRANDON, MB – An internationally-acclaimed musician and teacher at Brandon University (BU) has released her debut CD, exploring themes of European folk tunes and Romanticism.
Violinist Kerry DuWors, Assistant Professor in BU’s School of Music, joins forces with pianist Futaba Niekawa in the group duo526 to present BALLADE.

BRANDON, MB – Three students from the Brandon University (BU) School of Music selected to represent Manitoba in the 2014 National Youth Choir (NYC) in Halifax are now in the Maritimes, performing in a week-long tour. Aliah Nelson, Emma Lytle and Connor Lavell have joined 37 singers representing the other nine provinces.
