BRANDON, MB – Clarinet players at Brandon University’s School of Music demonstrated in 2014 that they are among the best in North America, with exceptional showings in important festivals in Canada and the US.

Four of the seven clarinets selected for the 2014 National Youth Band of Canada were Brandon University (BU) students, says Dr. Catherine Wood, Associate Professor at the School of Music.
“To have more than half of the clarinets in a national ensemble, including the section leader, coming from BU is remarkable,” says Dr. Wood, an award-winning clarinetist who has performed and taught throughout Canada, the United States and France.

BRANDON, MB – Many of Brandon’s musical elite will be performing in the always anticipated and well-received Faculty Concert, the first event in the 2014 pro series presented by the Brandon University’s School of Music, at 8 pm on Tuesday, January 14, in the University’s Lorne Watson Recital Hall.

“This concert will present a wonderful showcase of our faculty’s talents, featuring dedicated teachers and seasoned, renowned performers,” says Dr. Michael Kim, the pro series’ artistic director and the Dean of Music at Brandon University.

BRANDON, MB – Exceptional musicians from around the world are returning to Brandon for the week-long Augustfest Homecoming Concert Series, an annual festival featuring performers who were either raised or studied music in southwestern Manitoba.

Highlights this year will include baritone Hugh Russell, a native of Rivers MB, who has performed with the Danish Radio Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and  the Naples Philharmonic; pianist Sergei Saratovsky, a Russian-born graduate of Brandon University’s School of Music, who has played to audiences in Canada, Russia Portugal, the US and Australia.
