BRANDON, MB – In a banquet hall full of proud alumni, Brandon University (BU) officially introduced a new logo and look during this year’s Homecoming Weekend.
The new logo, a derivation of BU’s ceremonial coat of arms, maintains the rich heritage of its predecessor, but has simplified graphical elements and text that make for a more modern representation.

BRANDON, MB – With “I do so promise”, Dr. Gervan Albert Fearon was installed as the 15th President of Brandon University (BU) before a crowd including students, staff, provincial and federal politicians, Aboriginal leaders, and academics and University administrators from across Canada.
Cloaked in the grey and blue robes of office, President and Vice Chancellor Fearon thanked the audience for the opportunity to serve and to lead, noting, “We are all here with the sense of a brighter future for the University, and that spirit binds us.”
University Chancellor Michael Decter introduced Dr. Fearon as someone “who can move people in the direction of positive and constructive change”, a theme repeated by the province’s Minister of Education and Advanced Learning.

BRANDON, MB – A unique community astronomy program at Brandon University (BU) is giving the public a rare, free opportunity to view amazing objects in the night sky through the largest telescope between Kenora and Calgary.
In the past three years, more than 4000 people have visited the BU Observatory, not only during warm July nights but also February chills, to peer through the eyepiece of the 16-inch reflecting telescope which can bring the rings of Saturn into clear view.
BRANDON, MB – Following an exhaustive cross-Canada search, the Brandon University (BU) Board of Governors takes great pride in announcing that Dr. Gervan Fearon begins a five year appointment as President and Vice-Chancellor, effective August 1st, 2014.

Currently the Vice-President (Academic and Provost), Dr. Fearon joined BU in 2013 as part of the senior executive team, developing and promoting academic programming and research advancement, and overseeing the University’s Faculties, Student and Registrarial Services, Library Services, and Information Technology Services.
BRANDON, MB – A Brandon University (BU) radio astronomer may soon have the honour of naming a new discovery in the night sky.
Dr. Tyler Foster, Department of Physics and Astronomy, pinpointed what he believes to be the remains of an exploded star, a supernova remnant, during research this past summer at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in BC. He will verify the results later this month with observing time awarded to his group on a radio telescope in Effelsberg, Germany which is 100 meters across and, for decades, was the largest steerable telescope of any kind in the world.

BRANDON, MB – A new Master of Science degree will be offered at Brandon University (BU) beginning in 2014, benefitting student success and the economy in southwestern Manitoba. Minister of Education and Advanced Learning, James Allum, made the announcement today in a science lab on the BU campus.
