It is with profound sadness that the School of Music at Brandon University (BU) announces the death of William Gordon, who passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family, on the evening of October 14th.
Professor Gordon, known to so many of us as “Bill”, joined BU’s faculty in September 1970, retired from the full-time faculty at the end of 2013, and continued to teach university courses until 2020.
Life has taken Merv and Marilyn Letts to cities around the world, and they are celebrating their prairie roots by creating a new award that will help future generations of Brandon University (BU) students achieve their goals.
By generously donating stock, valued at approximately $45,000, they are funding the endowment of the Minnedosa Valley Scholarship/Bursary at BU. With an annual value of about $2,025 per year, the award will support students from Minnedosa Collegiate Institute who display strong academic, leadership, athletic and social skills in pursuing their post-secondary education at BU.
“I still consider myself a prairie kid,” said Merv, who grew up in Minnedosa before attending Brandon College.
Pride Month at Brandon University (BU) closes with the addition of a new bursary from the Gender & Women’s Studies Program (GWS) to support 2SLGBTQIA+ students.
With a $10,000 contribution from the Margaret Laurence Endowment Fund, GWS at BU has established a new bursary for students who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) which will fund an annual award of approximately $450 each year.
A new scholarship founded by the local Sikh community will support Brandon University (BU) students who demonstrate an interest in studying human rights issues.
Seventeen members of the Brandon’s Sikh community have raised $11,520 to date to establish a scholarship in honour of Guru Tegh Bahadur, a key leader in the history of Sikhism.

Brandon University alumnus and current Board of Governors member Kerry Auriat is partnering with National Bank Financial – Wealth Management, to make a $50,000 commitment to BU’s Healthy Living Centre (HLC).
BRANDON – Brandon University (BU) students will benefit from $330,000 in additional support this year through two valuable new bursaries approved on Tuesday by the BU Senate.
The bursaries were created to realize the benefits of changes to the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursaries Initiative (MSBI).
BRANDON – An anonymous couple has found a fitting, and very generous, way to recognize Brandon University’s (BU’s) 50th year.
The couple gifted shares to the University valued at approximately $50,000. Written on the donation form was, “Happy Birthday BU!”
“Brandon University is a high-quality jewel, a treasure,” said one of the donors.
BRANDON – Brandon University (BU) alumni wrapped up four days of Homecoming celebrations on the weekend.
The 2017 Homecoming was BU’s largest in several years, with more than 200 people attending Saturdays’ Dinner and Awards at Harvest Hall.
