Colleagues and friends are remembering Dr. Harvey Young for his kind manner, intellect and commitment to Brandon University (BU) after the passing of the Professor Emeritus and BU alumnus on Tuesday, May 9, at the age of 88.

The BU flag is being lowered to half-mast in his honour.

Dr. Young studied at Brandon College, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in Geology in 1955, and was a member of the College Caps hockey team.

Three major gifts over the past three fiscal years will support science students at Brandon University for generations to come, thanks to Brandon College science grad Barrie Burch.
Burch’s most recent donation, this past month, was worth more than $245,000. Combined with about $363,000 given the past two years, as well as consistent giving for more than two decades, this brings Burch’s lifetime total donations to $652,533.23.

Brandon University and the BU Students’ Union marks an important anniversary this year as the Citizen Science building turns 100 years old.

Speeches and refreshments held recently in the Mingling Area helped honour the building’s birthday, with student artwork and historic photos on display.

Constructed between 1922–1923, the Citizen Science building was the third building erected on what was then the Brandon College campus, following the Original Building (1901) and the attached Clark Hall (1906).
