BRANDON – Tassels were moved from one side of their caps to the next, as Brandon University’s newest alumni marked the symbolic moment when they moved from student to graduate.
Convocation concluded today at BU with two ceremonies, as hundreds of graduates received their degrees from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Health Studies and the School of Music.

BRANDON – More than $800,000 in new federal research funding is flowing into Brandon University (BU) through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grants program.
The news was part of a national announcement made on Tuesday by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Canada’s Minister of Science and Sport.

Brandon University hosts the two-day Manitoba Chemistry Symposium today and tomorrow, May 3 and 4. With the theme of “Bench, Biosphere and Beyond,” the symposium brings together leading researchers to explore the latest research and especially to consider the role that chemical research plays in shaping our society and the environment.
About 60 faculty and students will represent Brandon University, the University of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba and the University of British Columbia, as well as the National Research Council of Canada at the symposium.

BRANDON – No experience is required to participate in the Baycrest NBS Sharing Dance Seniors program, an exciting social opportunity for seniors that includes people living with dementia and their caregivers in the Westman Region. The program is returning for the third phase of a research project being conducted in partnership with Brandon University and Trent University.

BRANDON – In partnership with Brandon University (BU) researchers, the Brandon Friendship Centre (BFC) and Brandon Urban Aboriginal People’s Council (BUAPC) are hosting a new series of wellness workshops for Indigenous men.
The workshops will take place at the Cultural Resource Centre (A.R. McDiarmid Civic Complex, 638 Princess Avenue) every Thursday from March 7th to March 28th at 6 p.m.

BRANDON – The community is invited to help Brandon University (BU) kick off International Women’s Day celebrations early by honouring 19 outstanding female students at a reception next week.
The students will be presented with a certificate of commendation at a reception on Thursday, March 7. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m.

BRANDON – Researchers at Brandon University (BU) have launched a new project to study the stress experienced by men in the Westman region.
The two-year case study, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, seeks to address growing mental health concerns in the Prairie provinces.

A Brandon University faculty member will soon head to Estonia for his first meetings in his new role as chair of the Expert Group: Peatland Restoration, part of the International Peatland Society.
Dr. Pete Whittington, an Associate Professor of Geography and peatlands researcher at BU, was named to the position earlier this month.

Writer, educator and activist Dr. Niigaan Sinclair will visit Brandon University (BU) for a free public talk on Monday, Feb. 4.
Dr. Sinclair’s presentation, Forgetting to Dream: Reconciliation in Reverse, will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, in the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building.
