BRANDON, MB – Together with their families, student recipients of the 2013 and 2014 Enbridge Dakota Language Scholarship celebrated their achievements with members of Brandon University’s senior administration and representatives from Enbridge Pipelines Inc. at a luncheon held on campus in November, 2014.
In attendance was the Enbridge Dakota Language Scholarship recipient for 2013, Jillian Chalmers, currently in her second year at BU, as well as the two recipients for 2014; Shannen Wombdiska and Matthew Pratt, both in their first year at Brandon University.

BRANDON, MB – Two Brandon University (BU) students are the first recipients of a new bursary to be awarded each year to post-secondary students of Aboriginal descent.
Kyla Smith, a second year Native Studies student, and Jacqueline Sinclair, in her final year of a Creative Arts degree, were presented with the Inter-provincial Association of Native Employment (IANE) Westman Bursary.

BRANDON, MB – A student at Brandon University (BU) is undertaking a year-long study to investigate the effects of school sports on special needs students.
Raisa Rybinski, in her second year of BU’s Master of Education degree, has been awarded a $17,500 federal grant to assist her research project, entitled Sports Inclusion and Special Education.

BRANDON, Man. (November 28, 2014)—A substantial gift from a Westman couple with deep ties to the area will assist future students at Brandon University (BU) and Assiniboine Community College (ACC) in achieving their educational goals.

The Mel and Ruth Turnbull Trust is providing identical endowments of $261,589 to both institutions in support of student awards.

BRANDON, MB – With “I do so promise”, Dr. Gervan Albert Fearon was installed as the 15th President of Brandon University (BU) before a crowd including students, staff, provincial and federal politicians, Aboriginal leaders, and academics and University administrators from across Canada.
Cloaked in the grey and blue robes of office, President and Vice Chancellor Fearon thanked the audience for the opportunity to serve and to lead, noting, “We are all here with the sense of a brighter future for the University, and that spirit binds us.”
University Chancellor Michael Decter introduced Dr. Fearon as someone “who can move people in the direction of positive and constructive change”, a theme repeated by the province’s Minister of Education and Advanced Learning.

BRANDON, MB – The Dean of Brandon University’s internationally-renowned music programming has accepted a new challenge – alumni engagement, fundraising, and partnership building. Dr. Michael Kim, Dean of the School of Music, has been named Acting Associate Vice-President (External), and will oversee the University’s community campaigns including the current Score a Seat initiative to raise the final dollars for the Healthy Living Centre.

BRANDON, MB – Student success is at the heart of a new collaborative agreement signed today between Brandon University (BU) and Assiniboine Community College (ACC), a partnership to explore new courses, research opportunities and student mobility between the two institutions.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will enhance both programming and accessibility for more than 9,500 students enrolled each year in post-secondary education in Brandon and the surrounding area.

BRANDON, MB – Students from Brandon University (BU) have been honoured for summer research projects, which include understanding drug resistance and creating new synthetic materials to build better computers and medical diagnostic equipment.

A reception and research presentation was held for seven BU students sharing $31,500 in Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA), plus almost $8,000 in awards from Brandon University.

BRANDON, MB – Following an exhaustive cross-Canada search, the Brandon University (BU) Board of Governors takes great pride in announcing that Dr. Gervan Fearon begins a five year appointment as President and Vice-Chancellor, effective August 1st, 2014.

Currently the Vice-President (Academic and Provost), Dr. Fearon joined BU in 2013 as part of the senior executive team, developing and promoting academic programming and research advancement, and overseeing the University’s Faculties, Student and Registrarial Services, Library Services, and Information Technology Services.
