BRANDON, MB – Staff at Brandon University has donated the proceeds from a novel raffle of gift baskets to the Brandon and Westman Christmas Cheer Office.

Twenty baskets with unique themes including Redneck Christmas, 50 Shades to Get You Through the Season, It’s All About the Children and the Hey Girl Spa Package were put together by BU employees from every one of the University’s faculties and raffled this past week at the University’s annual Holiday Luncheon for staff, faculty and students.

Students entering the first year of the two year after degree program in the Faculty of Education were kept busy the first week in September with orientation. Students were introduced to faculty and rotated through various learning stations.

BRANDON, MB – Speeches, tours and 500 drums pounding in unison marked the start of Orientation today for freshman students at Brandon University (BU), a poignant time for both students and their parents.
“Today is scary and exciting, for both of us,” says Tracy Rimmer from Glenboro, MB. Her son Joseph is entering the Faculty of Science.

Starting in July 2009, a group of people started a journey in the basement classroom of the Ashern Elks Hall. Today, they are headed into the final leg of that journey with the finish line in their sights.

BRANDON, MB – Brandon University’s new University Librarian is a team leader with a long history of contributing to student success, in part by elevating the library user’s experience.
Mostly recently, Betty Braaksma served as Usability Liaison Librarian and Virtual Reference Coordinator at the University of Manitoba.

BRANDON, MB – A Brandon University (BU) professor is researching children’s oral and written language development, with the goal of creating new teaching methods that incorporate cultural factors into Canadian classrooms.
Donna Forsyth, BU Faculty of Education, will work with educators in northern and rural Manitoba school divisions as part of a $2.8 million nation-wide project which brings together the University of Toronto as the lead institution and BU and the University of Saskatchewan as partner institutions to address this important research topic.

BRANDON, MB – Clothed in traditional cap and gown, 558 students received their degrees during graduation exercises at Brandon University (BU) on Friday, May 31st. Capacity crowds of more than 2500 people cheered the grads, during morning and afternoon programs in BU’s Healthy Living Centre.

BRANDON, MB – A Brandon University (BU) alumna with international teaching and research experience is returning to the University as Dean of Education.
Dr. Heather Duncan obtained her Masters of Education at BU and PhD in Education Administration from the University of Saskatchewan.
