Brandon University ready to welcome high school students for February Open House

We are throwing open our doors at Brandon University (BU) to Grade 11 and 12 students from across the province this month.

“This is our first-ever Open House of this nature and we are really excited to welcome students, parents and family members to BU,” said Tom Brophy, Associate Vice-President (Student Services and Enrolment Management) and University Registrar. “Our research tells us that students who visit BU decide to come here and I think that this day will show why this is the case!”

The Open House is a more focused event than in years past, specifically designed for high school students to explore the BU campus and get a real look at what student-engaged education at BU is like.

“Moving from high school to university is a big step, and many students have questions,” said Katie Gross, BU’s Director of Student Recruitment and Retention. “This is a great, fun way to introduce students to the BU campus, show them everything we offer and where it is, and answer their questions.”

The student visitors will sit in on lectures from all five BU faculties: Arts, Science, Music, Education and Health Studies, getting a sense of how university classes operate and seeing some of the lecture theatres and classrooms where they’ll be learning. They’ll be able to meet and interact with some of their future professors, plus staff from all over campus, at an Information Fair.

Current BU students will help lead them on a tour of all the great things that our campus has to offer, and visitors will enjoy lunch, activities, prizes and more.

The open house runs from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Interested students and classes can learn more and register online or join the Facebook event.
