BRANDON, MB – A student at Brandon University (BU) is undertaking a year-long study to investigate the effects of school sports on special needs students.
Raisa Rybinski, in her second year of BU’s Master of Education degree, has been awarded a $17,500 federal grant to assist her research project, entitled Sports Inclusion and Special Education.

BRANDON, MB – The Heathy Living Centre at Brandon University (BU) has recorded more than 60,000 visits by area residents during its inaugural year of operation, and this week members and non-members alike will have the opportunity to help guide development of future programming and community use.
The first-ever Community Conversation is being held Wednesday evening. Health Living Centre (HLC) manager Maureen Bonar says this event is part of a continuous dialogue to identify community needs for the $20 million HLC, which features a trio of gymnasiums, fully-equipped fitness room with resistance and weight training equipment, eatery, meeting rooms, and indoor walking and jogging track.
BRANDON, MB – In a banquet hall full of proud alumni, Brandon University (BU) officially introduced a new logo and look during this year’s Homecoming Weekend.
The new logo, a derivation of BU’s ceremonial coat of arms, maintains the rich heritage of its predecessor, but has simplified graphical elements and text that make for a more modern representation.
BRANDON, MB – With “I do so promise”, Dr. Gervan Albert Fearon was installed as the 15th President of Brandon University (BU) before a crowd including students, staff, provincial and federal politicians, Aboriginal leaders, and academics and University administrators from across Canada.
Cloaked in the grey and blue robes of office, President and Vice Chancellor Fearon thanked the audience for the opportunity to serve and to lead, noting, “We are all here with the sense of a brighter future for the University, and that spirit binds us.”
University Chancellor Michael Decter introduced Dr. Fearon as someone “who can move people in the direction of positive and constructive change”, a theme repeated by the province’s Minister of Education and Advanced Learning.

BRANDON, MB – One of Canada’s prominent family-owned companies is making the largest single private donation to-date to the Healthy Living Centre at Brandon University (BU), a gift which will reach $500,000 when fully realized by matching contributions from the community.
The Richardson Foundation – the giving arm of James Richardson & Sons, Limited and Affiliated Companies across Canada: Richardson International, Tundra Oil & Gas Limited, Richardson GMP Limited and Richardson Centre Limited – has donated $250,000 and has also pledged to match every dollar raised by BU in 2014 for the Healthy Living Centre (HLC), up to an additional $250,000. In recognition of this generous gift, the main gymnasium in the state-of-the-art HLC will be named Richardson Gymnasium.
BRANDON, MB – Following an exhaustive cross-Canada search, the Brandon University (BU) Board of Governors takes great pride in announcing that Dr. Gervan Fearon begins a five year appointment as President and Vice-Chancellor, effective August 1st, 2014.

Currently the Vice-President (Academic and Provost), Dr. Fearon joined BU in 2013 as part of the senior executive team, developing and promoting academic programming and research advancement, and overseeing the University’s Faculties, Student and Registrarial Services, Library Services, and Information Technology Services.

Investors Group will receive corporate name recognition on the score clock in the main gym of the HLC, the home to BU’s Bobcats basketball and volleyball teams.

Mr. Dick and Mrs. Verda McDonald are BU alumni who first met on campus in the 1950s, married, and raised three sons in Brandon.
