Brandon University Dean of Arts and Professor of History Dr. Gregory Kennedy has received one of Canada’s most prestigious honours in French-language historical scholarship. His book Lost in the Crowd: Acadian Soldiers of Canada’s First World War (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2024) has been awarded le Grand Prix de l’Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française, given annually to the best scholarly book on the history of the French in North America.

Brandon University’s popular Mini University program is celebrating a banner year, welcoming 821 campers over the summer — 68 more than last year — and capping the season with a national contest win.

Mini U’s creative energy shone through in a short video produced by campers and staff, which was submitted to Actua’s 2025 Summer Video Contest. Out of entries from Actua network members across Canada, the Mini U submission was selected as the “Actua Staff Pick” winner.

Brandon University is celebrating Dr. Aloysius C. Anyichie, who has been named one of this year’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Award recipients. This prestigious national honour celebrates immigrants making remarkable contributions to Canada and winners are selected through an extensive nomination, judging, shortlisting, and public online voting process.

Dr. Rhonda Hinther, a professor in the Department of History at Brandon University, has been awarded a prestigious teaching award from the Canadian Historical Association (CHA). The national honour recognizes her innovative and impactful approach to engaging students with primary sources in historical studies.

Candice Waddell-Henowitch was in Quebec City for meetings when she was shocked to hear her name being called to the stage.

An associate professor in BU’s Department of Psychiatric Nursing, Dr. Waddell-Henowitch was in Quebec to attend the national members meeting of the YWCA; she’s outgoing president of YWCA Westman, a role she held for three years, and is now a member of the YWCA Canada board.
