Brandon University celebrates employee milestones

Some of Brandon University’s most dedicated employees were celebrated this week at the annual Long Service Recognition event, held in Harvest Hall.

Employees marking significant career anniversaries of at least 10 years were individually called up to receive a commemorative pin and have their photo taken.

There were 14 employees who had reached 10 years of service, 17 who had reached 15 years, 11 who had reached 20 years, eight who had reached a quarter-century, six who had reached 30 years, and two who had reached 35 years.

“Every year that passes, the students seem to look younger and younger. But seeing them helps keep me young at heart,” said Val Rodgers, who works in the Registrar’s Office today, and who remembers being glued to figure skating drama at the 1988 Calgary Olympics — the same year she joined BU.

All told, 58 employees representing a cumulative total of more than 1,065 years of experience were celebrated at the event.

“Brandon University is a people organization, and we rely on the dedication and care of everyone who works here. I learn from and am inspired by the people at BU every day,” said BU President David Docherty, who led the proceedings. “There is a special connection that develops over time, as you learn more about the rhythms and history and traditions of this place, and it is an honour to celebrate people who are reaching special milestones in their time with Brandon University.”
