BRANDON, Man. – More than 100 faculty and staff members were honoured this week by Brandon University (BU) and its Board of Governors at the BU Long Service Recognition Event.
Those recognized included 15 departed faculty and staff members, many of whom have recently retired.

Maybe, when Brandon high school students read about quantum information decades from now, they’ll come across the name of one of this city’s own.
It’s a lofty vision to even think about, Christopher Pugh admits when asked, but lofty too was what the 28-year-old and his team of scientists accomplished last fall — worthy of a front page Globe and Mail article, at least.
Pugh and his colleagues from University of Waterloo became the first team to beam an encrypted quantum transmission from the ground to a flying aircraft.
Edward Snowden will speak live to a Brandon University (BU) audience on May 9, discussing the ethics of mass surveillance and the role of public institutions like universities.

Students from across western Manitoba are visiting Brandon University this week to explore science through the Innovation150 Power of Ideas Tour. The tour will visit more than 60 communities this year.

Celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, Innovation150 is bringing the Power of Ideas Tour to Brandon University on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26.
Students will team up to guess what’s happening in this mystery tube as part of the Power of Ideas tour.
BRANDON, Man. – Four Brandon University (BU) students are the first-ever BU Senior Colloquium award recipients.
The Colloquium, which was first held in 2009, features presentations from third- and fourth-year students on their research, covering a wide range of topics.
BRANDON, Man. – Brandon University (BU) is honoured to partner with Westman Immigrant Services and the Brandon Islamic Centre to host Walking Forward with Muslims, on Friday, March 24, 2017.
The event will provide an introduction and exploration of Islamic culture and Muslims in Brandon, featuring a panel discussion regarding current challenges, film presentation by Brandon filmmaker Meghan Cronkrite and traditional foods, tea and music.
On behalf of the entire Brandon University (BU) community, President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gervan Fearon extended a warm welcome to incoming members of the Board of Governors.
“I am extremely pleased to welcome these four outstanding individuals to our Board of Governors,” said Dr. Fearon.

However, many highways in the area are still closed — do not drive on a closed highway.
BRANDON, Man. – A tuba player from Germany, a homegrown volleyball star, and a woman who has been an instructor in both astronomy and judo are just a few of the outstanding female students at Brandon University (BU) who will be honoured next week.
The celebration will help mark International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8. Members of the BU faculty and staff have nominated 24 students who are being recognized for their accomplishments in their studies and in their communities.
