A Brandon University faculty member will soon head to Estonia for his first meetings in his new role as chair of the Expert Group: Peatland Restoration, part of the International Peatland Society.
Dr. Pete Whittington, an Associate Professor of Geography and peatlands researcher at BU, was named to the position earlier this month.

Brandon will be a hub for the study of the geosciences in Western Canada this week as Brandon University (BU) students host the Western Inter-University Geosciences Conference (WIUGC).
The Department of Geology at BU is bringing the annual student-run conference to Brandon for the first time, with the event beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and concluding on Saturday, Jan. 12. The conference will be held at the Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre, with some events taking place at BU.
Students from across Western Canada will be joined by industry representatives to share their research and ideas related to geology, geophysics and geoengineering.

BRANDON – Two Brandon University faculty members in the Department of Geography have been recognized with awards from the Canadian Association of Geographers.
Professor Emeritus Roderick McGinn and Dr. Rachel Herron were presented with the awards from the Prairie Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers (PCAG) at its 42nd annual meeting, held Sept.

As part of its BU50 community celebration, marking 50 years as a university, BU will welcome Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield to the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium to speak to a pair of full houses.

Brandon University (BU) is bringing its research out of the academic journals and into the community with a new conference.
The New Beginnings Community Connective Research Conference will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13. The event will showcase research projects from across BU through three-minute presentations by alumni, students and faculty members.

BRANDON – Brandon University’s (BU’s) biggest Homecoming yet begins with a full evening of activities this Thursday, Oct. 11.
With the theme Forever Blue & Gold, Homecoming 2018 is a four-day community celebration, capping a year of events that mark the 50th anniversary of BU’s first year as a university. The Class of 1968, the first graduates to receive BU degrees, will be recognized at the Dinner and Awards on Saturday night.

BRANDON – Funding announced today by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will help a Brandon University (BU) researcher’s work to create a better understanding of cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Dr. Vincent Chen, an Assistant Professor in BU’s Department of Chemistry, is a recipient of an NSERC Discovery Grant, with a value of $165,000 over five years.

BRANDON – An extensive new research partnership looking at families’ experience with early childhood disability services will be introduced to the community at an event on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Brandon University (BU).

With the symbolic shift of a tassel from one side of their mortarboards to the other, nearly 600 Brandon University students became Brandon University graduates, receiving their degrees at today’s Convocation ceremonies. It was Brandon University’s largest graduating class in six years.
