BRANDON, Man. – Brandon University’s (BU) outstanding students and the generous donors that help them reach their goals were celebrated on Wednesday night at the annual BU Awards Reception.

BRANDON, Man. – Internationally lauded bass clarinetist and contrabass clarinetist Lori Freedman will perform on the Lorne Watson Recital Hall (LWRH) stage at Brandon University (BU) on Tuesday, March 29.
The concert, part of the BU School of Music’s pro series, will be Freedman’s final stop on her “Virtuosity of Excess” North American tour. She will present not only her inimitable approach to playing her chosen instruments, but also a full programme of new works.

Fans of choral music in Westmen will get a rare treat on Monday as the Brandon University (BU) Choral Ensembles host the North Dakota State University (NDSU) choirs in a concert event entitled Share the Music!
Under the direction of Dr. Jo Ann Miller and Dr. Eric Saari, the NDSU Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will feature dynamic choral works by composers John Corigliano and Edwin Fissinger as well as Saari, an NDSU graduate who premieres new songs based on three poems by Emily Dickinson.

Members of BU’s faculty and staff were asked to nominate students who have excelled in their studies and provided meaningful contributions to the community.

Highlighting the proficiency of several of the talented musicians in the Brandon University School of Music, the line-up is made up of compositions ranging from the early 20th century to newly composed works.

We are throwing open our doors at Brandon University (BU) to Grade 11 and 12 students from across the province this month.
“This is our first-ever Open House of this nature and we are really excited to welcome students, parents and family members to BU,” said Tom Brophy, Associate Vice-President (Student Services and Enrolment Management) and University Registrar.

BRANDON, Man. – A veteran performer with more than 20 recording credits to his name, Brandon University (BU) School of Music professor Eric Platz makes his debut as a composer and leader today with the CD and digital release of his new work, Life After Life, on the Allos Documents label.
Platz, a percussionist, was joined by fellow School of Music colleague Leanne Zacharias on cello and Chicago-based clarinetist James Falzone for the recording, which combines elements of free jazz and North African folk music with vast post-minimalist landscapes.

BRANDON, Man. – The Brandon University (BU) School of Music’s pro series will shine the spotlight on some old friends on Sunday afternoon: Former Dean of Music Michael Kim returns to the Lorne Watson Recital Hall stage with the Fine Arts Quartet.
Kim, who is now the Director of the University of Minnesota School of Music, will be back for one performance with violinists Ralph Evans and Efim Boico, violist Juan-Miguel Hernandez and cellist Robert Cohen.
