BRANDON, MB – Brandon University (BU) celebrated its generous donors, outstanding volunteers and new inductees into the Order of the Sheaf at the Brandon University Foundation Annual Luncheon held on Friday, May 22nd. Also announced at the Luncheon were the recipients of the Brandon University Foundation’s major awards for 2015.
BRANDON, MB – A packed house celebrated Brandon University’s (BU) generous donors and outstanding student achievements on the evening of March 18th, 2015 during BU’s annual Awards Reception. The event connected donors who have supported scholarships and bursaries with the student recipients of those awards in the spirit of fellowship and celebration.
He hadn’t planned on attending Brandon University. He didn’t even plan on working in Brandon.
Born in rural Manitoba and raised in Brandon, Jillian is small-town modest but brilliant, earning a medical degree in six years compared to eight to ten for most Canadian doctors.
“At med school,” she says, “you meet all these people who have wanted to be doctors since they started walking.
BRANDON, MB – A Brandon University (BU) instructor and respected elder has been recognized by the Manitoba government as the Aboriginal Educator of the Month.
Kevin Tacan, from the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation west of Brandon, is a sessional instructor with BU’s Native Studies department, teaching the Dakota language.
Great things can happen when you draw inspiration from those around you. Jinsung Kim’s story shows how natural talent, coaxed forward and cared for by teachers and mentors, can blossom into a promising future for the young musician.
The celebrated piano student is currently in his final year of a Masters Degree program at Brandon University’s School of Music, under the tutelage of Dr. Kyung Kim. Jinsung modestly recalls the early days of his musical education in Seoul, South Korea.

Samuel James McKee was an educator and early settler of the Canadian west, moving from Ontario to Rapid City, MB, in 1882, and to Brandon in 1890 where he opened Brandon Academy.
