Conceived as a way of celebrating the contributions of musicians with significant connections to Western Manitoba, Augustfest X opens Sunday evening August 11 and runs through Friday, August 16, 2019. Concerts will be held each evening in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall on the Brandon University campus.

A Brandon University (BU) School of Music Associate Professor will perform concerts close to home and on the other side of the world this summer in support of her new album.
Violinist Kerry DuWors and pianist Futaba Niekawa, who teaches at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, have performed together as duo526 since they studied at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
Cybersecurity on Manitoba First Nations will be improved thanks to a Brandon University (BU) project funded by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA).
Drs. Sarah Plosker and Gautam Srivastava, who are Associate Professors in BU’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, have received a grant of $20,659 through CIRA’s Community Investment Program.

A Brandon University master’s student has earned a significant industry scholarship for her work with specialized mapping software.
For her master’s thesis, Alyssa Eagle researched the risks of amphibian mortality on roads using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology.
With applause, cheers, and ‘O Canada,’ 173 of Canada’s newest citizens were sworn in with a citizenship ceremony at Brandon University’s Healthy Living Centre.
“This a really exciting ceremony for Brandon University to be a part of,” said BU President David Docherty.

Brandon University professor Hamid Mumin has been named to a new provincial committee that will provide advice on priority issues related to mining and mineral exploration in the province, and help advance the goals of Manitoba’s Economic Growth Action Plan.
Mumin, the chair of the BU Geology department, and a member of the BU Board of Governors, will be one of nine members of the new committee, which was announced by the province today.
