Colleagues and friends are remembering Dr. Harvey Young for his kind manner, intellect and commitment to Brandon University (BU) after the passing of the Professor Emeritus and BU alumnus on Tuesday, May 9, at the age of 88.

The BU flag is being lowered to half-mast in his honour.

Dr. Young studied at Brandon College, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in Geology in 1955, and was a member of the College Caps hockey team.

The Brandon University (BU) Department of Geology is bringing old and new together.
As BU marks the 110th year of the study of geoscience at BU, state-of-the-art technology is giving researchers and students in the department a better look than ever at rocks and minerals that are often several million, and sometimes billions, of years old.
“We have some of the best lab facilities of any university in Canada right here at BU,” said the Dr. Hamid Mumin, Chair of the Department of Geology.

Brandon University’s (BU’s) Department of Geology has an extra reason to celebrate as Provincial Engineering and Geoscience Week in Manitoba approaches from February 28 to March 7.
This year marks 110 years in the study of geoscience at BU. Students in the Geology program learn about the multi-billion-year history of the Earth and its composition, its fascinating tectonic processes, evolution of life, and impacts on society and our daily lives. Everything we use comes from the Earth, and geoscientists work hard to ensure a sustainable, healthy and prosperous future for everyone.

BRANDON – The Brandon University Alumni Association (BUAA) is continuing a tradition for this year’s virtual Homecoming by honouring some outstanding individuals.
Teresa Flannery is the recipient of the Brandon University Alumni Association Award for Exceptional Service.

Brandon will be a hub for the study of the geosciences in Western Canada this week as Brandon University (BU) students host the Western Inter-University Geosciences Conference (WIUGC).
The Department of Geology at BU is bringing the annual student-run conference to Brandon for the first time, with the event beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and concluding on Saturday, Jan. 12. The conference will be held at the Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre, with some events taking place at BU.
Students from across Western Canada will be joined by industry representatives to share their research and ideas related to geology, geophysics and geoengineering.
