Brandon University marks Black History Month with campus and community events

Brandon University will mark Black History Month in February with a series of events designed to foster learning, mentorship, and celebration, featuring nationally recognized scholar Dr. Bukola Salami and a student-focused community celebration led by the Loy Excellentia Initiative.

“Black History Month gives us an important opportunity to learn together and to reflect on how institutions can better support Black students and communities,” said Cheryl Fleming, Diversity and Human Rights Advisor at Brandon University.

‘White Coat, Black Art’ host Dr. Brian Goldman to deliver public talk at Brandon University

Acclaimed author and radio host Dr. Brian Goldman will deliver a free public talk at Brandon University next weekend as part of BU Homecoming 2024.

In his talk, Dr. Goldman will speak about health care in Westman and the power of teamwork, including BU’s plans to host a medical school on its campus.

New book and keynote address by BU prof show potential in power-sharing

A new book of collected essays co-edited by Dr. Allison McCulloch explores how power-sharing can support political peace using examples from across the global south.

Power-Sharing in the Global South: Patterns, Practices and Potentials includes 15 essays that offer individual case studies and comparative perspectives about the framework of power-sharing in places as varied as Colombia, Ethiopia, Lebanon and Malaysia.

BU student delivering talk on Hutterite colony’s sponsorship of Syrian refugee family

Brandon University (BU) student Elaine Hofer will present a public talk and slide show on Thursday, March 9 on her Green Acres Hutterite Colony’s sponsorship of a Syrian refugee family. The talk, which is part of the Creative Writing Literary Exchange, is entitled “Walking Home: Cross-Cultural Exchange in Rural Manitoba.
