BRANDON, Man. – Brandon University (BU) research projects in sub-atomic physics, vascular biology and fractional calculus have received significant federal funding through the Discovery Grant program.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded Discovery and Discovery Development Grants, totaling $360,000 of support, to three projects led by BU faculty members.

BRANDON, Man. – A continuous drive to build knowledge and develop critical, editorial, and textual skills in the field of literature has led Dr. Demetres Tryphonopoulos, Dean of Arts at Brandon University (BU), to connect with his Greek roots.
Tryphonopoulos, who was born in Greece, has been recognized by the New York-based Institute for International of Education (IIE), which has selected him for the Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program (GDFP).
BRANDON, Man. – New resources at Brandon University (BU) will help all faculty, staff and students address issues of discrimination and harassment in the work and learning environment, and differentiate these from interpersonal conflict.
A committee comprised of union, Brandon University Students’ Union, Student Services and Human Resources representatives worked together for well over a year on the new Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Policy and accompanying procedures.

BRANDON, Man. – A new report by the Rural Development Institute (RDI) at Brandon University (BU), the BU-housed Rural Policy Learning Commons (RPLC) and the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation (CRRF) recommends an overhaul of infrastructure funding for rural areas of Canada.
The report was presented to the Senate of Canada’s Committee on National Finance this month by Dr. Ryan Gibson, a University of Guelph professor and member of the CRRF and RPLC.
BRANDON, Man. – Quantum computing at Brandon University (BU) will get a major lift thanks to two major federal grants earned by a member of the Faculty of Science.
Dr. Sarah Plosker has been selected as a Chairholder under the Canada Research Chair (CRC) Program.
BRANDON, Man. – Dr. Dennis Anderson, the longest-serving Brandon University (BU) President since BU received its charter in 1967, will be honoured this month.
The BU Board of Governors will confer the title of President Emeritus on Dr. Anderson at the University’s Spring Convocation on May 26. Dr. Anderson served as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University from 1990 to 2000.
BRANDON, Man. – More than 100 faculty and staff members were honoured this week by Brandon University (BU) and its Board of Governors at the BU Long Service Recognition Event.
Those recognized included 15 departed faculty and staff members, many of whom have recently retired.

Maybe, when Brandon high school students read about quantum information decades from now, they’ll come across the name of one of this city’s own.
It’s a lofty vision to even think about, Christopher Pugh admits when asked, but lofty too was what the 28-year-old and his team of scientists accomplished last fall — worthy of a front page Globe and Mail article, at least.
Pugh and his colleagues from University of Waterloo became the first team to beam an encrypted quantum transmission from the ground to a flying aircraft.
