One of the world’s most sought-after violinists, James Ehnes will give a special virtual masterclass as Brandon University’s Francis Chaplin Guest Professor of Violin this coming Sunday, April 18. During the masterclass, violin students of Professor Kerry DuWors will perform works by Mozart, Bruch, Wieniawski and Tchaikovsky.

Brandon University (BU) students are choosing to challenge inequality to mark International Women’s Day on Monday, March 8.
International Women’s Day will kick off Women’s Week at BU as the university’s Status of Women Review Committee (SWRC) recognizes 17 outstanding female students as nominated by faculty and staff members. Profiles of the students appear on the BU website at BrandonU.

Sister Joan, as she was known, was an Associate Professor in the School of Music, where she taught for more than 30 years.
While COVID-19 has shut down live performances for many musicians, the pandemic is also opening new doors for musical expression and international collaboration.
The Brandon University Indigenous New Music Festival will be streamed online this year, beginning with a joint performance on Saturday Jan. 30 by the Brandon University New Music Ensemble (BUNME) and Any Enemy (North East New Music Ensemble), a contemporary ensemble made up of musicians from northeast Scotland.
The entire Brandon University community is saddened by the recent death of an alumnus and former Dean of Music at BU, Dr. Glen Carruthers. A pianist and noted musicologist, he died peacefully at his Ontario home on Dec. 24. The cause of death was cancer; he was 66.
“Glen was one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever known,” said current BU Dean of Music Greg Gatien.
E-Gré National Music Competition winner Brittany Rae and accompanist Jesse Plessis will conclude their Winner’s Tour with a live-streamed performance on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

On September 19 and 20, 2020, six of Canada’s best emerging vocalists performed live-streamed recitals for the 43rd Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition (E-Gré) in Voice. The E-Gré Competition began in 1976 and is the most important annual Canadian and contemporary music competition.
