The music of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and other significant Russian composers will resound in Brandon University’s Lorne Watson Recital Hall on Saturday afternoon, as pianist Dmitry Rachmanov makes his premiere appearance in the pro series. Currently the chair of the piano department at California State University, Northridge, Professor Rachmanov is a busy recitalist as well as soloist who has appeared in prestigious European and North American halls.

In a city where some of the world’s biggest stars draw huge audiences night after night, a group of Brandon University (BU) music students are taking up a five-day residency.
The BU Big Band will be playing downtown Las Vegas later this month, as the high-energy jazz ensemble meets with younger Las Vegas students at both a prestigious high school, the Las Vegas Arts Academy, and a creativity-based preschool and primary school, the 9th Bridge School.
The Brandon University (BU) Chorale has been selected to perform at Podium, the biannual National Choral Conference and Festival, this May in Edmonton.
The BU Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Andrée Dagenais, was chosen along with 13 other choirs from a pool of 42 choral ensembles.

BRANDON, Man. – Internationally lauded bass clarinetist and contrabass clarinetist Lori Freedman will perform on the Lorne Watson Recital Hall (LWRH) stage at Brandon University (BU) on Tuesday, March 29.
The concert, part of the BU School of Music’s pro series, will be Freedman’s final stop on her “Virtuosity of Excess” North American tour. She will present not only her inimitable approach to playing her chosen instruments, but also a full programme of new works.
Fans of choral music in Westmen will get a rare treat on Monday as the Brandon University (BU) Choral Ensembles host the North Dakota State University (NDSU) choirs in a concert event entitled Share the Music!
Under the direction of Dr. Jo Ann Miller and Dr. Eric Saari, the NDSU Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will feature dynamic choral works by composers John Corigliano and Edwin Fissinger as well as Saari, an NDSU graduate who premieres new songs based on three poems by Emily Dickinson.

BRANDON, Man. – A veteran performer with more than 20 recording credits to his name, Brandon University (BU) School of Music professor Eric Platz makes his debut as a composer and leader today with the CD and digital release of his new work, Life After Life, on the Allos Documents label.
Platz, a percussionist, was joined by fellow School of Music colleague Leanne Zacharias on cello and Chicago-based clarinetist James Falzone for the recording, which combines elements of free jazz and North African folk music with vast post-minimalist landscapes.
