BRANDON, MB – An adjunct professor with Brandon University (BU) has published a comprehensive, first-of-its-kind reference work on a topic of growing concern to individuals and nations alike – the quality of life.
Dr. Alex Michalos spent the last five years creating the Encyclopedia of Quality of Life and Well-Being Research, a 12-volume set containing essays from scholars in 58 countries on hundreds of topics including friendship, illiteracy, marginalized communities, yoga, gambling, and 22 of the most popular Quality of Life indexes used by governments and public policy institutes.

BRANDON, MB – An internationally-recognized voice in Indigenous health and the law is joining Brandon University (BU) in a $500,000 project to advance Aboriginal Peoples’ rights to health in Canada.
Dr. Yvonne Boyer comes to BU as the Tier ll Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Aboriginal Health and Wellness.

Dr. Rhonda Hinther, Department of History, made her comments during a keynote address at the New Frontiers graduate history conference at York University in Toronto, a premier annual event that draws participants from North America and Europe.

BRANDON, MB – The Rural Development Institute (RDI) at Brandon University (BU) today received $110,000 in funding from the Manitoba government, to assist in new community initiatives including a study of opportunities in Manitoba’s food processing industry.

The installment is the third in a five-year, $545,000 funding agreement between RDI and Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (MAFRD).

The Business Innovation Zone (BIZ) pairs local merchants with fourth-year business students from Brandon University (BU), to develop solutions to challenges the businesses are facing.

BRANDON, MB – A new display of whimsical artwork from Brandon artist and author Dr. Kurt Noll has opened in the campus library at Brandon University.
The exhibition features eighteen drawings and paintings, mostly produced during the past year, but with several examples of Dr. Noll’s earlier work.

Twenty baskets with unique themes including Redneck Christmas, 50 Shades to Get You Through the Season, It’s All About the Children and the Hey Girl Spa Package were put together by BU employees from every one of the University’s faculties and raffled this past week at the University’s annual Holiday Luncheon for staff, faculty and students.

BRANDON, MB – Brandon University is involved in a nation-wide study to examine the continuing loss of farmland in Canada and how that affects our country’s global competiveness and food sovereignty.
“In the last 40 years, farmland approximately twice the size of Prince Edward Island has been taken over for urban activities,” says Dr. Doug Ramsey from BU’s Department of Rural Development and member of the research team that will spend the next four years studying agricultural land use planning in Canada.

BRANDON, MB – One of Canada’s largest privately owned asset management firms is pledging $100,000 to assist business administration students at Brandon University (BU).
The Connor, Clark & Lunn Scholarship-Bursary in Business Administration will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need to a full-time returning student in any year of the Bachelor of Business Administration Program or Business Administration major.

BRANDON, MB – A Brandon University (BU) professor has won a national screenwriting award for his original dramatic film script about efforts to stop a hydro-electric project.
Darrell Racine, Chair of the Department of Native Studies, captured the 2013 Praxis Feature Film Screenplay Competition, awarded annually to Canadian writers.
