Fourteen Brandon University undergraduate students made their mark at WestCAST 2026, hosted by the University of Winnipeg earlier this month (Feb. 18–20). Uniting more than 400 emerging educators and faculty mentors from across Canada and the West Indies under the theme Together, We Grow, the conference gave BU’s delegation something rare and powerful: a national platform to share original scholarship before they’ve even begun their teaching career.

It’s easy to see how much safer things are for people walking to and from Brandon University, thanks to new crosswalk lights installed on 18th Street at Lorne Avenue.

This enhancement significantly improves pedestrian safety at one of Brandon’s busiest crossings with the installation of three sets of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).

Assiniboine College and Brandon University teamed up once again with the Brandon Chamber of Commerce to host ConnectED, a conference-style event that matched more than 80 students with dozens of professionals in fields they’re interested in.

Students rotated through 30‑minute mentorship rounds, hosted by one to two industry leaders, where they could ask questions and build meaningful connections with a variety of professions and sectors. Following the afternoon sessions, students joined members of the community and fellow alumni from both institutions for a come-and-go mixer.

Sometimes, the most important scientific discoveries come from the least glamorous places. In a new international study published in Scientific Reports, Brandon University paleontologist Dr. Mark MacDougall helped identify what may be the oldest known example of fossilized vomit from a land-dwelling predator, dating back nearly 290 million years.
