BRANDON – Archaeologists from Brandon University (BU) and the Manitoba Archaeological Society (MAS) are continuing their multi-year investigation of how Indigenous people lived in southwestern Manitoba before the arrival of Europeans.
The research project involves archaeological sites in the Pierson Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on Treaty 2 lands, which are the traditional homelands of the Dakota, Anishanabek, Ojibway-Cree, Cree, Dene and Métis peoples.
Kevin McKenzie, an Assistant Professor in Brandon University’s IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art, has a new exhibition opening this week at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM).
McKenzie’s show, ayîkisis ᐊᔩᑭᓯᐢ, will be featured in the main gallery of the AGSM from Thursday, July 14 to Saturday, Sept.
A pair of Brandon University professors have earned a national award for their new play, called IAP, which follows two members of an Indigenous family from Winnipeg who go through the Independent Assessment Process (IAP) for former Residential School students.

On the final day of Brandon University’s expanded Convocation 2022, this year’s graduates from the Faculties of Health Studies and Arts officially received their degrees. Convocation also welcome back graduates from 2021 and 2020 to a long-delayed in-person celebration.
Brandon University returns to an in-person Convocation this week with one of its largest graduating classes ever.
A total of 641 students will receive their degrees at Spring Convocation 2022, a two-day celebration of academic achievement with four separate ceremonies.
The incredible art of three members of Brandon University’s (BU’s) Class of 2022 will be on exhibition this summer at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM).
Nicole Brasseur, Carly Morrisseau and Faith Rae will be featured in the joint exhibition Reclaiming Our Narratives, from May 26 to July 16. All three are Bachelor of Fine Arts students in the IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art at BU, and the presentation in the AGSM’s Community Gallery is built around their thesis exhibitions.
A total of six valedictorians, representing top academic achievement and community commitment from Brandon University’s graduating students, will be lauded at BU’s Spring Convocation 2022 later this month.
Valedictorians have been selected from every faculty and the School of Music, with the Faculty of Education selecting two this year.
Some of Brandon University’s best will be honoured at Convocation 2022 later this month.
