Futuristic technology could upend agriculture and global food security sooner than we realize, while crises like Covid-19 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine hint at a world of ongoing global supply chain challenges that places like Westman must constantly adapt to.

“A core group of farmers will be called on to grow the vast majority of the world’s staple food supply, and while mighty in their ability they need support from the general public,” says agriculturalist Robert Saik, a renowned thinker and futurist with deep roots in Westman. He will be bringing his guidance and insights to that general public at Brandon University on Saturday, Sept.

Colleagues and friends are remembering Dr. Harvey Young for his kind manner, intellect and commitment to Brandon University (BU) after the passing of the Professor Emeritus and BU alumnus on Tuesday, May 9, at the age of 88.

The BU flag is being lowered to half-mast in his honour.

Dr. Young studied at Brandon College, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in Geology in 1955, and was a member of the College Caps hockey team.

Three major gifts over the past three fiscal years will support science students at Brandon University for generations to come, thanks to Brandon College science grad Barrie Burch.
Burch’s most recent donation, this past month, was worth more than $245,000. Combined with about $363,000 given the past two years, as well as consistent giving for more than two decades, this brings Burch’s lifetime total donations to $652,533.23.
