BU celebrates long-term employee service

Faculty and staff gathered at Harvest Hall on Friday, Dec. 12 to recognize long-term service to Brandon University.

The remarkable service records of nearly 50 Brandon University employees were celebrated during a ceremony on Thursday.

The annual Long Service Employee Recognition Event honours staff and faculty members who have reached five-year milestones of 10 years or more in their BU careers. This year, 49 employees with cumulative service of 800 years were presented with pins recognizing their long-term contributions to BU.

“Brandon University has been here 125 years, since 1899. I don’t think that any of us will still be here in 2099, but I believe that BU will be, making dreams come true,” said Dr. David Docherty, President and Vice-Chancellor of BU. “It’s the service of our faculty and staff that makes all that possible.”

Among those acknowledged this year was Joyce Burba of the School of Music, who has become only the second employee to reach the incredible benchmark of 50 years since the long service recognition event was introduced. She joins Dr. Nancy Stanley, of the Faculty of Education, who reached the 50-year mark in 2019 before retiring with 54 years of service in 2023.
