The entire Brandon University community is saddened by the recent death of an alumnus and former Dean of Music at BU, Dr. Glen Carruthers. A pianist and noted musicologist, he died peacefully at his Ontario home on Dec. 24. The cause of death was cancer; he was 66.
“Glen was one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever known,” said current BU Dean of Music Greg Gatien.

A second Brandon University professor has been recognized with an international award by one of the world’s largest academic publishers.

Dr. Cindy Clarke received an “Outstanding Author Contribution Award” from Emerald Publishing’s 2020 Literati Awards.

Brandon University faculty, staff and current students put out the digital red carpet for prospective students from all four corners of the globe with an international conference held online last weekend.
“We were thrilled with the interest and enthusiasm from these future students, who are so eager to come learn here, and from everyone at BU who showed these students what a great and welcoming community Brandon University is,” said David Rowland, Director of International Activities at BU and the organizer of the two-day conference.

BRANDON – Students will get a global view of an event they are all experiencing in a Medical Anthropology course returning to Brandon University (BU) in January 2021.
Anthropology of Global Public Health (BU course No. 12:456) has been re-introduced because of its relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic and added to BU’s Winter Term schedule.

A research paper by Brandon University (BU) professor Dr. Christopher J. Schneider has been recognized with an international award from one of the world’s largest academic publishers.

Schneider was the recipient of a 2020 Emerald Literati Outstanding Author Contribution Award announced in November, recognizing his contribution to updating sociological frameworks for the 21st century.

Following two successful terms under Chancellor Michael Decter, Brandon University is looking for the next person to step into the role as titular head of the University.
“Michael Decter has exemplified the very best of Chancellorship, and on behalf of the entire Brandon University community, I extend to him my deepest thanks for his service to our institution,” said BU President David Docherty.

Although a traditional in-person vigil is impossible this year, Brandon University and the BU Status of Women Review Committee is again partnering with the YWCA and the Women’s Resource Centre on ways for people to honour the Dec. 6 National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Every Dec. 6, the country pauses to remember the 14 women who lost their lives in a mass shooting at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1989.
