BRANDON, MB – Four graduating students from Brandon University (BU) have been awarded federal scholarships, given each year to top-ranking applicants furthering their educations in the sciences, social sciences and the humanities.
In total, $70,000 in scholarships from the Tri-Agency’s Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) will be split among the BU students.

Dr. Vance MacLaren is co-investigating with Dr. Michael Ellery from the University of Manitoba in a research project entitled Personality and Motives for Gambling Among Frequent VLT Players.

BRANDON, MB – Following a nation-wide competition, a trio of Brandon University (BU) researchers has been awarded more than half-a-million dollars in grants to continue their scientific research.
Dr. Martin Lemaire will receive $472,032 to outfit a new laboratory in BU’s Chemistry Department to research molecular spintronic materials, a relatively new field of study.

BRANDON, MB – A Brandon University (BU) professor has been awarded a federal grant to study micro-organisms in Manitoba soil that may assist in identifying new infectious diseases of reptiles and other animals.
Dr. Wendy Untereiner, Department of Biology, says the $135,000 Discovery Grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will fund several projects over the next five years in Brandon and the Narcisse area.

BRANDON, MB – More than 10,000 pennies have been donated to Brandon University (BU) in the past month by residents responding to a public plea by Science professors who use the copper coins in experiments and demonstrations.

“We are overwhelmed by the response,” says Dr. Mark Berry, professor and chair of BU’s Chemistry department.

A dozen Brandon University (BU) professors were pie’ed during the 3rd annual ‘Pie Your Profs’ fundraising event on April 5th.
“It’s good for charity and a great stress reliever,” said organizer Hannah Mazier, a BU student and president of the Brandon University Zoological Society (BUZS). “We raised more than $1,000 for the BU Students’ Union Food Bank and the Canadian Cancer Society.
