Brandon, MB — Another Brandon University student, Amy McDonald will be taking advantage of the National Student Exchange (NSE) program to study abroad. The third-year French major, who is originally from Sioux Lookout, Ontario, will be heading to Newcastle, Australia to attend the university there.

Brandon, MB — Two faculty members in the Faculty of Science — Dr. Pamela Rutherford and Dr. Terence McGonigle — will receive up to $200,000 for studies they are each undertaking. Dr. McGonigle is looking into the relationship between various environmental factors and leafy spurge, while Dr. Rutherford is investigating the northern prairie skink.

BRANDON, MB — Brandon University student Jesse Plessis has won the 2012 Canadian Music Centre Prairie Region Emerging Composers Competition. His latest work for orchestra, Tender is the Night, is an elegy for a recently closed-down pub that he frequented during his undergraduate studies.

BRANDON, MB — School of Health Studies faculty members — Fran Racher, Nancy McPherson and Dean Care — have received funding from the Alzheimer Society of Canada to undertake a study entitled Living with Dementia: The Experiences of Older Couples in Managing their Lives Together.
The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the experiences of older couples as they strive to manage their lives together, while one partner is experiencing dementia.

BRANDON, MB – The Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team will be hosting the first annual Holiday Hoops Classic, an event aimed at teaching local youth the basics of basketball.
The session will be held on December 18 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the BU Gymnasium and is aimed at kids in grades 1- 8.
“Our athletes have come from all over North America, and at some point been greatly influenced by a coach, mentor or volunteer that has given their time,” says head coach Gil Cheung.

Brandon, MB — Today, Brandon University’s Senate met to establish the policies that will guide the return to classes for BU students. The Senate, comprised of students, faculty and administration, has approved a policy that will see both terms completed by the end of April.

BRANDON, MB — The bargaining teams for the Brandon University Board of Governors and the Brandon University Faculty Association announced this evening that a tentative agreement has been reached. The job action against the University will cease at 11:59 tonight and classes will resume on Monday at 6 p.m.

Brandon, MB — Today, the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) announced the 2011 national winners of the You Innovate Canada Tournament: four Brandon University students. Stephen Chychota, Stephanie Fung, Jeanette Hudon and Kayvon Razzaghi, all senior BU students, rose to the top with their winning entry entitled Grow Mugs.
