Police departments have a whole new beat to patrol, thanks to the rise of Facebook, Twitter and the like.
BU sociology professor Christopher Schneider has a new book on the phenomenon, “Policing and Social Media,” which includes examples from the 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup riot, the Toronto Police Service’s innovative social media strategy, and the YouTube video that brought worldwide attention to the fatal shooting of Sammy Yatim by Toronto police officer James Forcillo.

In a brief ceremony this morning at the Healthy Living Centre (HLC), representatives from Special Olympics Manitoba and Brandon University (BU) officially launched a one-year countdown to the 2017 Special Olympics Manitoba Provincial Summer Games, which will be held in Brandon next June.
“Special Olympics Manitoba is very excited to host our 2017 Provincial Summer Games in Brandon,” said Jenn Campbell, Special Olympics Manitoba incoming President and CEO. “We know that Brandon will be a fantastic host for our athletes from across the province!

Brandon University (BU) English professor Dr. Jonathan A. Allan says it was “a pun-filled event” as he officially launched his new book, “Reading From Behind: A Cultural Analysis of the Anus” at the prestigious 2016 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Regina late last month. But he also took time to point out how important it is to take butt stuff seriously.
