A new book of articles by religion scholars from around the world includes a chapter by a Brandon University professor, and he says the sometimes-violent ancient religions he studies still echo in today’s world.

Dr. Kurt L. Noll, a professor in BU’s Department of Religion, is the author of “The Patron God in the Ancient Near East,” which is the first chapter in the new book.
Brandon University grieves the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The University enjoyed ties with the Queen that included two visits, in 1970 and in 1984. The Queen laid the cornerstone for the construction of the James R. Brodie Science Centre during her first visit, which drew a crowd of 1,000 to campus.
As we begin another wonderful year at Brandon University, it is delightful to welcome everyone back to in-person learning. We are proud of our open campus, and it’s been great to see so many people filling our courtyard, front lawn, and other shared spaces.
A Brandon University Master’s student who is studying fossilized pollen and spores (called palynology) has been recognized with three awards for her ongoing research and outstanding potential.
Nidhi Patel, who is earning a Master of Science in Environmental and Life Sciences (MELS) at BU after previously earning a Bachelor of Science here, said the recognition is motivating.
An accomplished post-secondary administrator and project manager will join Brandon University’s senior leadership as Manager of Executive and Board Operations.
“I am delighted to announce Louise Moss as our newest team member and look forward to the energy and enthusiasm she will bring to the role,” said BU President Dr. David Docherty.
The online ordering system for Brandon University Student ID cards is now open. Student ID card are your passport to many BU services and supports, including after-hours access to campus buildings and spaces, where required.
Brandon University is encouraging everyone to participate in National Indigenous Peoples Day to celebrate and honour Indigenous peoples and cultures, to learn about Indigenous history, and to engage meaningfully with Indigeneity today.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is Tuesday, June 21 this year, and BU is participating in or hosting a number of events around that time to support the day.
Most of the city’s celebrations are hosted at the Riverbank Discovery Centre, where BU is a sponsor and will have several booths.
A pair of Brandon University professors have earned a national award for their new play, called IAP, which follows two members of an Indigenous family from Winnipeg who go through the Independent Assessment Process (IAP) for former Residential School students.

Darrell Racine, an Assistant Professor in Native Studies, and Dale Lakevold, an Associate Professor in English, Drama & Creative Writing, received the Best Full-Length Play award in the Theatre BC Canadian National Playwriting Competition 2021.
With a snip from a pair of oversize scissors, the rainbow ribbon fell away, cheers erupted, and Brandon’s first Pride crosswalk was officially opened at the heart of the Brandon University campus.
Connecting Harvest Hall with the John E. Robbins Library, the crosswalk is located in a highly trafficked, prominent, and very visible area near the heart of campus.
