Feb. 24 update on ongoing BUFA negotiations

Brandon University and the BU Faculty Association continue to work hard on negotiating a new collective agreement that is fair for all.

However, as you may have heard, members of BUFA recently ratified a strike mandate. .

We continue to work hard on negotiations and our goal is to reach an agreement at the table without a strike. However, it is natural to wonder how this possibility may affect you.

At this time all Brandon University operations remain unchanged. Classes will resume as scheduled following Reading Week, on Monday, February 26th, and all services are still being offered.

Students are at the forefront of our thoughts. Scheduled negotiations have been expanded, and we are continuing to make progress on all aspects of the Agreement that remain open as we work hard to prevent any disruption.

We know that this uncertainty is stressful, and your mental health and wellbeing are of the utmost importance. We encourage you to make use of the supports that are available to you:

  • Students can book an appointment with personal counsellors by going to room 105 in the McKenzie Building, or by calling 204-727-9737. More options and resources are available by visiting https://www.brandonu.ca/personal-counselling. The Brandon University Students’ Union has additional resources available, both through their website at http://www.busu.ca/resources and through your StudentVIP health and dental plan, for those who have opted in to the plan. Plan details can be found at http://www.busu.ca/healthplan.
  • Staff and faculty have access to support through Homewood Health at 1-800-663-1142 or at https://homeweb.ca/
