Graduates at Brandon University receive more than a degree when they walk across the stage at Convocation — they are also presented with a unique piece of commemorative art.

“This is one of our newest Convocation traditions, and quickly becoming one of our most cherished,” said Andrea McDaniel, the University Registrar, whose office oversees Convocation. “It was inspired in 2020 when we wanted to offer something tangibly meaningful at a time we were required to celebrate virtually.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Meir Serfaty, who served more than 45 years at Brandon University (BU), will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award later this month at the 2021 Spring Convocation.
“Meir is the epitome of a dedicated academic who has been an inspiration to generations of students as well as to his fellow faculty members,” said BU Vice-President (Academic & Provost) Dr. Steve Robinson.

BRANDON – Tassels were moved from one side of their caps to the next, as Brandon University’s newest alumni marked the symbolic moment when they moved from student to graduate.
Convocation concluded today at BU with two ceremonies, as hundreds of graduates received their degrees from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Health Studies and the School of Music.

With the symbolic shift of a tassel from one side of their mortarboards to the other, nearly 600 Brandon University students became Brandon University graduates, receiving their degrees at today’s Convocation ceremonies. It was Brandon University’s largest graduating class in six years.

Brandon University (BU) will hand out more than degrees at its annual Spring Convocation on Friday, June 1.
The exceptional accomplishments of several alumni and educators will also be recognized at the ceremonies at the BU Healthy Living Centre (HLC). Three Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented, as well as three awards for current BU faculty, and the Distinguished Teacher Awards.
