LORNE WATSON (1919 – 2010)
Lorne Watson was Director of Music at Brandon College/University from 1948 to 1981. A pivotal figure in Brandon and Manitoba, he was a major presence in Canadian music until his death at age 90 in January, 2010.

For his accomplishments as a concert violinist, who began violin studies at the age of four and who has received acclaim both in Canada and abroad.

The annual “E-Gré Competition,” now in its 33rd year, took place in Lorne Watson Recital Hall at the Brandon University School of Music April 30 to May 2. This year’s competition was for pianists. Nine semi-finalists performed public recitals on April 30 & May 1, after which three were chosen to advance to the finals and perform completely different programs on May 2.
Focusing on Canadian and contemporary music and exceptional performance, the E-Gré Competition was created as a tribute to composer and pianist/violinist Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté.
BRANDON, MB – Brandon University’s Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BScPN) program was honoured with a special award Thursday evening in Winnipeg.
The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) bestowed upon the faculty, a Special 50 th Anniversary Award, as a thank you for the significant contribution made towards the profession in Manitoba.
BRANDON, MB – Brandon University has been given the go-ahead to establish a Masters of Psychiatric Nursing (MPN) program – the first of its kind in Canada.
“This is a unique program in Canada and one that will serve Manitoba and Canada well,” says Dr. Deborah Poff, President and Vice-Chancellor.
BRANDON, MB – The 2009-2010 pro series continues with a recital featuring three School of Music faculty members. Pianist Kyung Kim will be collaborating with clarinettist Catherine Wood and ‘celllist Leanne Zacharias.
BRANDON, MB – Brandon University is proud to report that enrollment is up 3.8% for the 2009-10 academic year.
BU saw an increase of nearly one percent in full time students, and 10.5 per cent in part time students.
This summer the School of Health Studies at Brandon University received approval for both its nursing programs.
The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba granted approval for the Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing program until the spring of 2013.
The School of Health Studies’ Psychiatric Nursing program recognizes the important role that clinical partners play in student learning and thank them for the continued professional working relationship with nurses, health care professionals and facilities.
This past year, 140 health care professionals acted as Preceptors.
New admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (B.Sc.P.N.) have been approved by Brandon University Senate to be effective September 1, 2010.
