Brandon, MB – The Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition for the performance of Canadian and contemporary music is pleased to announce its 2010 prizewinners:  
1st Prize – Claudia Chan
2nd Prize and City of Brandon Prize – Andrea Lodge
3rd Prize – Christopher Morano
Audience Choice Prize – Everett Hopfner

The annual “E-Gré Competition,” now in its 33rd year, took place in Lorne Watson Recital Hall at the Brandon University School of Music April 30 to May 2. This year’s competition was for pianists. Nine semi-finalists performed public recitals on April 30 & May 1, after which three were chosen to advance to the finals and perform completely different programs on May 2.
  Focusing on Canadian and contemporary music and exceptional performance, the E-Gré Competition was created as a tribute to composer and pianist/violinist Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté.

BRANDON, MB – The 2009-2010 pro series continues with a recital featuring three School of Music faculty members. Pianist Kyung Kim will be collaborating with clarinettist Catherine Wood and ‘celllist Leanne Zacharias.

Featuring:
– Booths from a wide variety of companies and organizations

-Breakout sessions on a diverse array of career-related topics
-Building a network of mentors in an informative setting

Manitoba Environmental Industries Association (MEIA) will host the second annual Remediation and Prevention Conference at the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg, MB on February 25, 2010. This conference will offer insight into todayʼs issues surrounding remediation, arming attendeeʼs with new problem solving perspectives as provided by peer case studies and examples.

On December 10, 2009 Brandi Prouten and Braden Wolfe presented their Environmental Science Topics (ES 499) projects.
Brandi Prouten’s project was: ‘Identification and Assessment of Possible IMPARA Sites in Manitoba’.

Britain’s birds have seen a dramatic reversal of fortune over the last decade, with once threatened species now thriving and previously common sightings becoming increasingly rare.
A major report from several of Britain’s leading conservation groups and led by the RSPB says rare birds such as the osprey have fared much better than common counterparts.
