A trio of outstanding Brandon University (BU) alumni will be recognized at Homecoming later this month.
Dr. James McAllister, Lisa Ormann and Lorraine Pompana will receive Brandon University Alumni Association (BUAA) awards during the Homecoming Dinner and Awards on Saturday, Oct. 15. McAllister will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for Career Achievement, while Ormann and Pompana will both be honoured with the Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service.

Brandon University (BU) will be hosting its first in-person Homecoming celebration since 2019, from October 13 to 16, 2022.

The weekend will be filled with a multitude of events including the usual favourites such as the Homecoming Dinner and Awards Ceremony, the Athletics Wall of Fame Brunch, and the Pro Series concert featuring BU’s Megumi Masaki, who was named to the Order of Manitoba this past spring.

A local business formerly run as a student-led enterprise at Brandon University took a step forward late last month when it opened a brick-and-mortar retail outlet on Rosser Avenue.
According to founder Parker Easter, ReNu Hygienics — which opened at the 15th and Rosser Mall on July 31 — saw its fair share of challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic but is ready to ramp up production.

Brandon University graduate Whitney Hodgins has been named the first recipient of the new Jim and Ginette Munson Autism Leadership Award, after spending years raising awareness for Manitobans with disabilities.
The 27-year-old formally received this award during the eighth annual Canadian Autism Leadership Summit, an event that is run by the Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorder Alliance (CASDA) and officially wrapped up on Tuesday.

A skilled educator with experience supporting student success is leading Brandon University’s (BU’s) growing Co-operative Education program this year.
Davion Johnson is filling the role held by Cora Dupuis while Dupuis takes study leave for the 2022 calendar year to complete her PhD in Educational Studies.

A dedicated board member and volunteer who has devoted countless hours of service to Brandon University will receive the prestigious Apex Award from the Brandon University Foundation.
Jeff Cristall, who says his earliest memories of BU were lending a hand as a kid from the sidelines for the then-College Caps football squad in the 1960s, most recently served three consecutive terms on the BU Foundation board, including as President of the BU Foundation from 2015–17.
The BU Foundation is responsible for fundraising on behalf of Brandon University, and of stewarding the resulting endowments and donated funds.
