While many eyes were on the Olympic athletes at Rio through mid-August, two Brandon students were among 55 of Canada’s best young musicians performing and competing at the National Music Festival in Edmonton.
Jammie Lee, on piano, and Kayla Solomon, on trumpet, are Brandon students who were among those chosen to represent Manitoba at the national competition.

Dauphin’s two post-secondary institutions are teaming up to roll out the welcome mat for students across the city.
Using yard and boulevard signs, business banners, and a social media campaign, Brandon University (BU) and Assiniboine Community College (ACC) are taking advantage of the back-to-school season to show-off and celebrate just how important students are to the community.

For decades, student leaders at Brandon College, now Brandon University (BU), held a symbolic staff that demonstrated the responsibility and honour of their elected positions.
The Senior Stick and Lady Stick were students who served senior roles in the student executive of the college, and although their precise roles and responsibilities changed over time, they were generally seen as student body president and vice-president, working with the heads of other student organizations and class year presidents to help the college’s social and student life run smoothly.

BRANDON, Man. – A pair of Brandon University (BU) students have doubled up on their international exchange options to earn a coveted semester abroad, studying human rights and international policy development at The Hague University in The Hague, The Netherlands.
And for Ursula Geisler and her boyfriend Drew Spicer, just arranging the exchange provided some lessons in international negotiation — including a virtual stop in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Despite being mostly forgotten, a local landmark continues to play an important role in defining treaty relationships in Canada, says a Brandon University (BU) researcher who is working on a documentary about the Grand Rapids of the Assiniboine River.
Tom Mitchell, Archivist Emeritus at BU, says that the Rapids, including the Landing downstream of them and the Crossing upstream, were natural landmarks in an era before railroads and then highways spread across the Prairies, and the Crossing was key marker in delineating the borders of Treaty No. 1 and Treaty No. 2, which includes the city of Brandon.

The deadline is fast approaching for business owners and leaders in southwestern Manitoba to share their experiences through a Rural Development Institute (RDI) survey aimed at strengthening the province’s agri-food industry.
The purpose of the Rural Innovation in Manitoba (RIM) survey is to find the challenges faced by businesses as they grow and expand, as well as what steps they have taken to overcome them.

Leadership in university and colleges comes in many forms, from the instructor teaching computer aided design and entering competitions, to break throughs by researchers, to creating a mandate for innovation at the senior level. Among the many articles, activities, and supports for innovation, what is often missed is the role of rural in an otherwise urban story of innovation.

When Westman’s Isabela Onyshko competes in the women’s all-around gymnastics finals this Thursday, she’ll know that she has the support of friends and family cheering her on as they watch live across the country — and here at Brandon University.
Onyshko, who earned a spot in the finals after a top-10 performance during Sunday’s qualifying round, will attend BU in the fall to study in the Faculty of Science.
