Brandon, MB — The 75 students in the Brandon University Chorale and the BU Concert Choir will be participating in the final Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s concert of 2011. The focus will be on G.F. Handel’s oratorio, Messiah HWV 56, a traditional favourite of the season.

“This is a unique and incredible opportunity to have been invited by the WSO to join them in the production of Messiah,” said Dr. Andrée Dagenais, the director of the two student choirs who prepared them for this event. “For the students, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be collaborating with a professional ensemble, like the WSO, in the course of undergrad studies. That was the motivation to accept the invitation. So, we’re really looking forward to sharing with everyone in the Westman area this incredible and powerful masterpiece of music.”

The concert featuring the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra — with guest Brandon University choirs as well as guest conductor Yuri Klaz with Sarah Halmarson (soprano), Rosemarie Vanderhooft (mezzo-soprano), Christopher Mayell (tenor) and Mel Braun (baritone) — is sold-out. It will take place on Sunday, December 18, at 3 p.m., in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.
