Henry Champ to Serve Second Term as BU Chancellor

BRANDON, MB — During the most recent Brandon University Senate meeting, the members approved a second three-year term — from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2014 — for Chancellor Henry Champ.

“I love it! I’m hoping to be renewed for a third term,” quipped Mr. Champ, who is originally from Hartney and Brandon, but is now based in Washington, D.C. “I’ve enjoyed being able to do something for the University.”

A former Brandon College student, Mr. Champ forged a career in broadcast journalism, contributing stories to the CBC, CTV and NBC network news. A former bureau chief in London and Washington, his contributions were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association. Now retired, Mr. Champ stays closely connected to campus activities and meetings via the Internet and site visits.

“Henry’s enthusiasm, energy and commitment to Brandon University is exceptional. His focus on students is wonderful. I am so pleased that Chancellor Champ will be with us for another term,” said Deborah Poff, Brandon University’s President and Vice-Chancellor.

One of the initiatives that he has spearheaded since becoming Chancellor of Brandon University has been the integration of American students, specifically from Washington, D.C., to the BU campus. So far, Mr. Champ has taken seven students he has taken under his wing and they have thrived here. Furthermore, this project has been beneficial for the University and has enhanced its cultural diversity.
