Fourteen Brandon University undergraduate students made their mark at WestCAST 2026, hosted by the University of Winnipeg earlier this month (Feb. 18–20). Uniting more than 400 emerging educators and faculty mentors from across Canada and the West Indies under the theme Together, We Grow, the conference gave BU’s delegation something rare and powerful: a national platform to share original scholarship before they’ve even begun their teaching career.

Lisa Wood, an Assistant Professor in Brandon University’s IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art, has painted the official presidential portrait of former University of Winnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Anette Trimbee.
The artwork was unveiled recently at UWinnipeg’s Richardson College.

Dr. Alison Marshall, BU Department of Religion, and Pauline Greenhill at the University of Winnipeg are presenting “Masquerade, Masking and Multiculturalism in Canada: An International Symposium” as part of their five-year, $287,000 Insight Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
