Brandon University (BU) and community supporters honoured 19 new educators on Friday evening.
The students have completed PENT, a community-based program that trains educators, most of them from rural and remote communities.
Brandon University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. David Docherty has been renewed for a second five-year term.
The renewal was unanimously approved by the BU Board of Governors at their June meeting, and an official contract was signed this week.
Brandon University will open its doors again this weekend for the annual Doors Open Brandon tours.
The university’s historic Clark Hall will be open for visitors from 1–5 p.m.
Congratulations to Dr. Eftihia Mihelakis, Associate Professor of French and Francophone Studies in the Department of Francophone Studies and Languages at Brandon University. Dr. Mihelakis was recently appointed the new Editor-in-Chief of the journal @nalyses : revue des littératures franco-canadiennes et québécoise.
The latest play by the Brandon University writing team of Dr. Darrell Racine and Prof. Dale Lakevold was recently named Best Full Length Play in Theatre BC’s Canadian National Playwriting Competition for 2022.
MELITA – Archaeologists from Brandon University (BU) and the Manitoba Archaeological Society (MAS) are continuing their multi-year investigation of how Indigenous people lived in southwestern Manitoba before the arrival of Europeans — and members of the public are invited to get a first-hand look at their latest work this weekend and later this month.
The research project involves archaeological sites in the Pierson Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on Treaty 2 lands, which are the traditional homelands of the Dakota, Anishanabek, Ojibway-Cree, Cree, Dene, and Métis peoples.
It’s not too often that you can change a name and still stay the same. It’s even less often that what you stand for changes, while not changing at all. But that’s the reality for the BU CARES research centre at Brandon University.
Sweeping changes in how people used technology were one of the side effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and a new Brandon University research project wants to capture your memories of those changes.
“We’re gathering a base of information about this time period, where some changes have already come and gone, like the practice some people had of washing and sanitizing groceries,” said Sydney Houlihan, a student researcher who is working on the project.
Starting this fall, all Brandon University undergraduate degrees will include Indigenous content. The new requirement, which was approved by the BU Senate earlier this year, adds a minimum of three credit hours of approved Indigenous content to any BU undergraduate degree.
Brandon will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Wednesday, and a ceremonial fire and Teachings House will be held to honour the day on the Brandon University campus.
“National Indigenous Peoples Day has become a highlight on campus, as we celebrate the culture and contributions of all Indigenous peoples,” said BU President David Docherty, who noted that more than 15 per cent of BU students self-declare as Indigenous.
