Tens of thousands of visitors will be treated to a warm blue-and-gold Brandon University welcome as they stream through the gates of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair on Thursday, March 29, as BU hosts Kids Day at the Fair.
“As Brandon University celebrates our 50th anniversary since receiving our charter, and more than a century of providing quality education for southwestern Manitoba, we are elated to bring a little bit of BU to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair,” said BU Interim President Steve Robinson.

“Planting Seeds of Change: Voices of Indigenous Youth”, a photovoice exhibition, is now on display at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, with an opening reception to take place on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. The exhibit accompanies the launch of “Planting Seeds of Change: Voices of Indigenous Youth,” a collection of photographs and stories by Indigenous youth in Brandon and Winnipeg.

BRANDON – The past and present Brandon University’s (BU’s) jazz program will be centre stage at this year’s Brandon Jazz Festival.
With Brandon University celebrating its 50th year since receiving its charter, and the BU jazz program marking its 15th anniversary, School of Music professor Michael Cain and his band, Sola, will be among the featured performers at the Festival, which will take place from March 15 to 17. The Festival is marking its own milestone this year as well, having been founded 35 years ago.
“This is the first time since the Brandon Jazz Festival began in 1983 that BU faculty, students and alumni have been featured so prominently,” said Greg Gatien, Dean of Music at BU. “Along with providing an excellent opportunity for school-aged musicians to learn and perform, we’re fortunate to be able to see many top-flight jazz performers on stage right here in Brandon through this Festival.

BRANDON — Modern interpretation of traditional songs took centre stage at a special concert to showcase Métis songcraft. The concert, “From Paris to the Prairies,” was arranged by Brandon University Professor Emerita Dr. Lynn Whidden, an ethnomusicologist whose teaching has helped to maintain local Indigenous traditions.
