Usually putting “pottery” and “smashed” into the same sentence is a bad thing, but not for Brandon University ceramics students! This year’s student pottery sale smashed their old record by raising more than $1,800 for students and the ceramics studio, toppling last year’s record of $1,200.
The extremely popular sale, which featured one-of-a-kind handmade pottery bowls and mugs, was held Wednesday, April 4 in the Mingling Area of the Knowles-Douglas Student Union Centre.

Ms. Katie Gross has been appointed Dean of Students at Brandon University.
Brandon University (BU) has honoured 25 students for their commitment to leadership.
Their efforts were recognized at a celebration dinner on Wednesday that capped the 2017–18 Student Leader Certificate Program.
Dorothea Hayley, soprano, and Manuel Laufer, piano, will appear in Brandon on Tuesday.
After a succession of superb concerts, the 2017–18 pro series closes the books on another memorable season with one final presentation.
Tens of thousands of visitors will be treated to a warm blue-and-gold Brandon University welcome as they stream through the gates of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair on Thursday, March 29, as BU hosts Kids Day at the Fair.
“As Brandon University celebrates our 50th anniversary since receiving our charter, and more than a century of providing quality education for southwestern Manitoba, we are elated to bring a little bit of BU to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair,” said BU Interim President Steve Robinson.
“Planting Seeds of Change: Voices of Indigenous Youth”, a photovoice exhibition, is now on display at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, with an opening reception to take place on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. The exhibit accompanies the launch of “Planting Seeds of Change: Voices of Indigenous Youth,” a collection of photographs and stories by Indigenous youth in Brandon and Winnipeg.
Brandon University will be forced to make cuts and raise tuition fees in the wake of a 0.9% decrease in its provincial operating grant. A 15% cut to senior administration will make it possible to help preserve faculty positions as well as front-line staff, with a continuing priority on the student experience and student educational needs.
Brandon University is taking steps to preserve the heritage of the former Strand Theatre in downtown Brandon, with the doomed building set to come down by the end of March.
“The iconic Strand sign is in great shape and I am eager to see how our plans for downtown will reinterpret it in an entirely new context,” said Brandon University Interim President Steve Robinson.
