Brandon University’s 50th anniversary year sparked an extraordinary outpouring of generosity from donors, who responded to BU’s Annual Fund appeal by more than tripling last year’s amount.
More than $370,000 was received between Oct. 12, 2017 and Oct. 12, 2018 — a timeline that ran from Homecoming to Homecoming as Brandon University celebrated its BU50 anniversary.
Brandon University (BU) has unveiled new permanent posters that are being distributed around BU’s campuses to remind and encourage everyone to work toward reconciliation.

The original Brandon College Honor Roll is on display in the Brandon College Alcove to mark the centennial of Armistice Day.
Brandon University is encouraging reflection and remembrance as the world marks 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Because Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday this year, the university will remain closed on Monday, Nov. 12 to honour the day. As well, a special display will recognize and honor those from Brandon College who left to fight in the First World War.
The display includes historic versions of the Brandon College Honor Roll, which are available for viewing in the Brandon College Alcove, located on the second floor of the John E. Robbins Library.
The original Brandon College Honor Roll was unveiled in the College Chapel on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 26, 1915.
Brandon University continues to be ranked as a national leader in providing undergraduate students with faculty facetime and educational supports.
This year’s Maclean’s magazine rankings of Canadian universities again placed BU near the top in faculty per student, class sizes and budget for student services, as well as for library support.
A permanent tipi is going up in a prominent location on the Brandon University campus.
The tipi will be installed just off of 18th Street, on a triangular piece of grass near McMaster Hall and the BU book store.

The Brandon University library is teaming up with the Brandon Public Library to present a celebrated Winnipeg graphic novelist and writer at a number of events next month.
David Alexander Robertson will first present in the Gathering Space at the John E. Robbins Library at BU on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 4, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Some of Canada’s most exciting musicians will headline a free concert next month to celebrate Brandon University’s 50th anniversary Homecoming.
Manitoba band Royal Canoe will top the bill, with special guest Begonia, as they add an extra date to the end of their ongoing North American tour for the BU Homecoming.
This upcoming October, Brandon University will host “Movies for Mental Health,” a workshop conducted in partnership with BU Student Services and the North American organization Art With Impact. The event will take place on campus on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 from 4:30–6:30 p.m.
Tickets to the Chris Hadfield keynote at Brandon University’s 50th-anniversary Homecoming next month have sold out. Tickets to the event went on sale Monday at noon and the last one was snapped up by mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
