Longtime community leader, physician, and Brandon University supporter Dr. Bill Myers was honoured Wednesday with the Brandon University Foundation Honorary Trustee Apex Award, the Foundation’s highest recognition for meritorious service and outstanding leadership.
The award was presented during the Brandon University Foundation Annual Luncheon, held at the Victoria Inn.
“I think this award is primarily one for longevity,” Dr. Myers laughed, adding that he was proud to be in his fifth term serving the Foundation.
A member of the Brandon University Foundation Board since 2011, Myers served on the Foundation’s Management Committee from 2017 to 2025 and was President of the Foundation from 2017 to 2021. He also played an active role in Brandon University’s BUILD campaign and received the Foundation’s Outstanding Fundraiser Award in 2014.

“Dr. Myers has provided tremendous leadership, wisdom, and dedication to the Brandon University Foundation for more than 15 years,” said Chris Hunt, President of the Brandon University Foundation. “His commitment to both Brandon University and the broader Westman community has made a lasting impact, and we are proud to recognize his service with this year’s Apex Award.”
Dr. Myers attended Brandon College before earning his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1971. He later completed his surgical training at Dalhousie University and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Over the course of his distinguished medical career, Myers served as Head of Surgery and Chief of Staff for the Brandon Regional Health Authority and was recognized for excellence in teaching through his work with the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Medicine.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Myers has long been deeply involved in community service and fundraising efforts in Brandon and across Manitoba. His volunteer leadership has included work with the YMCA, Ducks Unlimited, the Brandon Regional Health Centre fundraising campaign, the 1997 Canada Summer Games, and provincial healthcare planning initiatives.
“Dr. Myers exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and community leadership that has helped Brandon University thrive,” said Carla Eisler, Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs. “His generosity with his time, expertise, and energy has strengthened the Foundation and helped advance opportunities for students and the entire university community.”
The Brandon University Foundation Honorary Trustee Apex Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service in support of the Foundation and its mission.
“Thank you so much for this award. Previous recipients show incredible commitment and service to BU over many years, it’s humbling to be included on this list,” Dr. Myers said. “Brandon University punches above our weight. We can be justifiably proud — and that’s in no small part thanks to the Foundation.”
At the annual luncheon where the award was presented, the BU Foundation celebrated its exceptional 2025 financial report, which saw record-setting Annual Fund donations and disbursements back to BU, along with setting an all-time high-water mark with more than $108 million in funds under stewardship.
