Dr. Christophe LeMoine has been appointed as Dean of Science at Brandon University (BU).

Dr. LeMoine is currently full Professor in the Faculty of Science, where he has been a faculty member since 2015 and has served as Acting Dean of Science since January 2023. He has also served in many other roles at BU, including Chair of the Department of Biology, Chair of the BU Animal Care Committee, and on many other committees and bodies including Senate, the Senate Research Committee, the Faculty of Science Tenure and Graduate Studies Committees, and the Senate Executive Committee. He received his PhD in Biology from Queen’s University in 2008, after which he held a number of post-doctoral fellowships at McMaster University and the University of Ottawa.

He has developed many skills that will help ensure his success as Dean of Science, including leading academic programming, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, budget planning and leadership, union relations, stakeholder engagement, supporting faculty and students, and representing the Faculty of Science in various capacities throughout BU.

Dr. LeMoine is a student-focused academic and has supervised many students both at BU and at other institutions. He has taught many students in several different Faculties at BU, and has designed and taught a variety of courses and lab exercises aimed at promoting active learning and skills development in students. He is also an active researcher in the field of comparative physiology, with a research program that broadly focusses on examining the mechanisms and consequences of metabolic plasticity in animals. His impressive research output has been made possible by an equally impressive record of winning grants; he has been supported by both external granting bodies such as Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, as well as internal funding programs such as those offered by the Brandon University Research Committee and the Brandon University Students’ Union.

“Chris works diligently to cultivate positive working and learning environments, and continues to promote continual learning of both students and faculty, particularly in relation to BU’s commitment to equity, diversity, Indigenization and decolonization,” said Dr. Kofi Campbell, Provost and Vice-President (Academic). “He is a strong mentor to junior faculty members and students, and is equally focused on the professional development of mid-career and senior colleagues. For the past 18 months he has been an active and highly valued participant on Deans’ Council, and a strong representative of the Faculty of Science throughout our institution. Please join me in welcoming Chris to this new role, and in offering him the support he will need from all of us to continue his successful leadership of the Faculty of Science.”
