Brandon University (BU) will celebrate Indigenous excellence with a series of events, beginning in mid-February and running until late March.

Coordinated by the Indigenous Peoples’ Centre (IPC) at BU, the events will include talks, cultural activities and entertainment. The first event will be a guest talk by Manitoba Métis Federation Minister Will Goodon on Indigenous identity theft from a Métis perspective. It will take place on Monday, Feb. 12, beginning at noon in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. Other events will include a celebration on Thursday, Feb. 15 in advance of Louis Riel Day. Taking place from noon until 2 p.m., in the IPC, the event will include fiddling and lunch. Brandon University will be closed on Louis Riel Day, on Monday, Feb. 19.

Other groups around campus are invited to host their own events in alignment with the Indigenous excellence celebration. Contact IPC Director Julia Stoneman-Sinclair at Stoneman-SinclairJ@BrandonU.ca to participate.

The IPC will also be recognizing Indigenous students, allies, faculty and staff. Nominations may be emailed to IPC@BrandonU.ca and should include the person’s name, field of study and an introduction paragraph that can be shared with the campus community.
