Federal Research Support Fund boosts BU infrastructure with more than $560,000

Research infrastructure at Brandon University (BU) will benefit from a grant of $560,149 through the Government of Canada’s Research Support Fund (RSF) for the 2022-2023 year.

The annual grant helps to pay indirect costs of research at the university, such as administration, including operation of the Office of Research Services, support of regulatory committees, institutional memberships in research organizations and library journals and subscriptions. The RSF funds the publication of BU’s Research Connection periodical, and is also used for maintaining and updating labs and research facilities and equipment, as well as other expenses. This past year support from the Research Support Fund was used in the development of the Knowledge Mobilization Suite, a media production studio designed to help BU faculty and staff share their research.

Determined by a formula based on the Tri-Agency research grants that a university receives over a three-year period, BU’s Research Support Fund allocation has been growing. This year’s grant was nearly $45,000 more than BU’s highest previous total, set last year.

“Through the hard work, initiative and creativity of our faculty, our research footprint is continually growing. Increased research output is one of the goals of our new strategic plan, and it requires an investment in support staff and infrastructure,” said Dr. Heather Duncan, Associate Vice-President (Research) at BU.

“We’re grateful for the foundation that the Research Support Fund gives us to develop research programs that place our scholars among the very best in their fields and lead to exciting discoveries that greatly benefit our communities.”
